Camino is a Canadian brand of fair trade and organic food products, owned by the Ottawa-based La Siembra Co-operative. At La Siembra, they are proud to build direct relationships with the 18 producer co-ops that they source their quality ingredients from, supporting more than 36,000 family farmers in 9 countries across Central and South America, and Southeast Asia. Every purchase of a Camino product contributes to building vibrant sustainable communities both abroad and in Canada, by supporting what they call the joyful food revolution. Winners of the 2012 Canadian Fairtrade Award: Co-operative category, from Fairtrade Canada and the 2011 Excellence in Corporate Responsibility Award, from Green Living.
Who harvests the organic ingredients used in Camino products? They work closely, and where possible, directly, with their partner co-operatives of family farmers to ensure transparency, respect and fairness in the supply chain. To accomplish this, they visit them in the South to learn more about their challenges and successes. Similarly, they invite representatives from their partner co-ops to Canada to learn more about the markets in which their products are being sold. These visits help them and their partner co-operatives of family farmers to identify new opportunities and to learn about what improvements can be made in the future. They source ingredients for all Camino products from co-operatives of family farmers in 9 countries: Bolivia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Indonesia, Madagascar, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Sri Lanka.
